Valedictorian, salutatorian selected

Holger Staude, an economics major from Frankfurt, Germany, will be the valedictorian for Princeton's class of 2009, and Stephen Hammer, a classics major from Carrollton, Texas, will be the Latin salutatorian.

The faculty accepted the nominations of the Faculty Committee on Examinations and Standing at its April 27 meeting.

Staude has the highest grade point average in his class, and he has the greatest number of A+ and A grades. In addition to his concentration in economics, he is pursuing three certificates: in finance, in musical performance (piano) and in environmental studies. He will deliver the valedictory address at Princeton's Commencement ceremony on Tuesday, June 2.

Hammer stands fourth in the class of 2009. Earlier this year, he was one of 32 American college students selected to receive Rhodes Scholarships to study at the University of Oxford next year. He will deliver the traditional salutatory oration in Latin at Commencement.

Feature stories on these students will be posted on the University home page next month.
