Marty Johnson:
One of the great things about Princeton University is that any
Marty Johnson:
three or four of you could come together and form a course.
Marty Johnson:
Isles grew out of one of those seminars.
Marty Johnson:
Our mission is to foster self-reliant families
Marty Johnson:
in healthy and sustainable communities.
Marty Johnson:
Now this is a building that you are going to be working on
Marty Johnson:
that is an interesting demonstration project.
Marty Johnson:
This is going to be a village. We are calling it a sustainable
Marty Johnson:
urban village, and what we'll do is we are going to create
Marty Johnson:
a very high-performance space here
Marty Johnson:
that's going to have offices, it's going to have
Marty Johnson:
a training center; it's going to have a school.
Marty Johnson:
There is going to be for-profits here, nonprofits here,
Marty Johnson:
there's going to be housing, and it is going to be very energy-efficient.
Marty Johnson:
Now, the first thing is the greenest building is that one which doesn't have to get torn down.
Marty Johnson:
But we are also going to create in this space,
Marty Johnson:
for less than $170 a foot, we are going to create some
Marty Johnson:
very energy-efficient, cool spaces that are going to allow
Marty Johnson:
people to come together, again, to live, to work, to train.
(music and hammering)
Dan Dickerson:
Marty seemed to be able to hit the point about being a
Dan Dickerson:
student-athlete and having responsibilities in and out of the pool
Dan Dickerson:
or on and off the field and also in the classroom.
Dan Dickerson:
That's just part of our social responsibility and just helping out
Dan Dickerson:
our community. It's another way to expand your horizons at Princeton.
(music)
Mark Paski:
You know, we really want to help get involved with the
Mark Paski:
community. That was one of our goals this off season,
Mark Paski:
was to get more involved with things outside of the program.
Mark Paski:
It's been just a great experience for us, and I think it will help
Mark Paski:
foster this idea for the younger grades of Princeton football.
Nikki Segueira:
As a varsity athlete at Princeton, I felt really lucky
Nikki Segueira:
all the way through.
Nikki Segueira:
I think it is just such a different experience being a
Nikki Segueira:
student-athlete on campus and Princeton's Varsity Club is
Nikki Segueira:
really great about giving back.
D.A. Graham:
I think it is really great for the community of Trenton to see
D.A. Graham:
Princeton University students and particularly the athletic
D.A. Graham:
department coming out and being a part of their community.
(music)
Phil Spiniello:
I think the highlight for me today is seeing the
Phil Spiniello:
student-athletes work together, like they work together on the
Phil Spiniello:
playing fields.
Phil Spiniello:
Seeing them do that off the fields;
Phil Spiniello:
having fun together and representing the University.
(music)
Christina Bortz:
As a representative of Princeton athletics and a
Christina Bortz:
student-athlete in general, I think it's really important
Christina Bortz:
to try to make an impact and get out there in the community.
Christina Bortz:
And also it's really great because it gives us as students
Christina Bortz:
a break from the regular rigors of your schedule;
Christina Bortz:
to kind of take a step back and just take a Sunday out
Christina Bortz:
of your time and get out here and do something different.
(music)
Marty Johnson:
What is most important to us down here in Trenton is the
Marty Johnson:
realization that we are not alone.
Marty Johnson:
We are always looking for ways for students and faculty to
Marty Johnson:
engage in our work.
Marty Johnson:
We get paid to do stuff, right?
Marty Johnson:
All the things we are doing on the ground are stuff.
Marty Johnson:
The thinking that goes on, the R and D,
Marty Johnson:
that has to happen by partnering with folks like
Marty Johnson:
Princeton University and students like you.
