Memorial service for Bressler planned for Oct. 10

Sunday, Oct. 10, 2010, 3 p.m. Robertson Hall, Dodds Auditorium

A memorial service for Marvin Bressler, the Roger Williams Straus Professor of Social Sciences Emeritus, is set for 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 10, at Robertson Hall's Dodds Auditorium. A reception will follow from 5 to 7 p.m. at Prospect House.

Bressler, who led the sociology department for 20 of his 30 years at the University and had served as a beloved mentor to the men's varsity basketball team since the 1960s, died July 7 in Skillman, N.J., of complications of heart failure. A full obituary is available online.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Bressler Fund for Studies in Education, established at Princeton in 1993 to subsidize an annual award to an oustanding preceptor. Checks, made payable to the Trustees of Princeton University, may be sent to Princeton University, P.O. Box 5357, Princeton, NJ 08543-5357. Please indicate on the check or by note that the gift is for the Marvin Bressler Graduate Student Teaching Award.
