OIT temporarily blocking survey website due to phishing email

In response to a fraudulent email sent to members of the Princeton University campus community today, the Office of Information Technology (OIT) has temporarily blocked campus network access to the website of SurveyMonkey, a widely used survey tool.

An email showing that it was sent from info@princeton.edu contained a link to a SurveyMonkey page and advised recipients that they could upgrade their mail accounts by clicking the link. OIT has determined that the message is a fraudulent "phishing" email that can put users' account and password information at risk if they click the link.

As a precautionary measure, OIT has blocked campus network access to the SurveyMonkey site, which may affect campus community members who have legitimate need to access the site. OIT officials are advising campus community members who have immediate needs to access the SurveyMonkey site to seek alternate network access at off-campus sites.

The block will be removed once OIT has determined that the threat caused by the phishing email has passed. For more information, visit the OIT website.
