Name: Matthew Armstead

Position: Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) program coordinator in the Office of the Dean of Undergraduate Students. Organizing two to three programs per week, with the LGBT Center and also with student organizations and departments across campus. Working with students on leadership development, peer education, discussion groups, and informal support and mentoring. Overseeing the LGBT Center's 10 interns and some administrative items, such as the budget, library and website.

Quote: "One of my favorite things is helping students figure out how to lead other students and to see their own potential. I also really love developing programs that are collaborative. They provide a fantastic opportunity for helping students figure out where they can expand their impact."

Other interests: Participating in community activism in Philadelphia and training activists. Gardening. Reading. Spending time with his two cats and dog.

LGBT Center ceremony marks a campus 'milestone' .

The "grand opening" of Princeton's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) Center on Oct. 12 marked a significant step in the University's efforts to foster a welcoming, supportive climate for all campus community members. Some 150 students, faculty, staff and alumni joined in celebrating the LGBT Center, which was established in summer 2005 and earlier this year moved into its new home at 246 Frist Campus Center.

Eight students receive 2011 Spirit of Princeton Award .

Eight students have been named winners of the 2011 Spirit of Princeton Award, which honors undergraduates at Princeton University for their positive contributions to campus life. The award recognizes seven seniors and one junior who have demonstrated a strong commitment to the undergraduate experience through dedicated efforts with student organizations, athletics, community service, religious life, residential life and the arts. 

University projects will explore 'overlooked' topics in Princeton's history .

Projects examining slavery, civil rights and community activism in the 1960s, and the experiences of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students, have received support from the Princeton Histories Fund. The fund fosters the exploration of "aspects of Princeton's history that have been forgotten, overlooked, subordinated or suppressed."

Centeno, Mukasa receive MLK Day Journey Awards .

Princeton University professor Miguel Angel Centeno and senior Sandra Mukasa were honored Jan. 16 with MLK Day Journey Awards, which recognize efforts to continue the effort to achieve Martin Luther King Jr.'s vision.
