Small fire breaks out in computer center Sunday night

The Princeton Fire Department put out a small electrical fire in a basement mechanical room in the computing center at 87 Prospect Avenue on Sunday night.

The University's Department of Public Safety, Department of Facilities, Department of Environmental Health and Safety, and the Office of Information Technology also responded to the fire, which broke out shortly before 8 p.m.

The fire appeared to have started in a backup power system but an exact cause was not known Sunday night.

OIT officials said the fire temporarily disrupted the University computer network in some buildings. All systems were restored by 11 p.m.

No one was in the building when the fire started, and no one was hurt.
