After Hurricane Sandy devastated parts of the Northeast this past fall, Princeton University's Pace Center for Civic Engagement organized various efforts to help storm-ravaged communities. The Pace Center's work represents one of the ways Princeton faculty, staff and students assisted individuals affected by the hurricane.

On campus, students affiliated with the Pace Center organized a supplies drive to collect clothes, food, household items, toiletries and children's toys. The items were donated to three nonprofit organizations supporting hurricane victims: Catholic Charities USA, Rescue Mission of Trenton and HomeFront of central New Jersey.

Princeton students and staff in November traveled to Lakewood and Long Beach Island, N.J., to clean flooded homes, drop off supplies and sort donations for residents. The Undergraduate Student Government also donated $600 to the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund, which was the total raised from the sale of commemorative bonfire T-shirts and posters at the campus bonfire Nov. 17.

In addition, the Office of Human Resources established a humanitarian relief program that allows University employees to participate in ongoing hurricane recovery programs in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania through June 30.

The following graphic details the Pace Center's and other University contributions to individuals and communities affected by Hurricane Sandy.
