FACULTY HONOR: Vanmarcke named 2013 Distinguished Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers

Erik Vanmarcke, a Princeton University professor of civil and environmental engineering, has been named a 2013 Distinguished Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), an honor that puts him among the most prominent civil engineering professionals and educators in American history. The organization cited Vanmarcke's "pioneering contributions to probability and reliability applied to geotechnical, wind and earthquake engineering." Of particular note was his lasting work in earthquake-risk analysis and developing geotechnical probability models. Vanmarcke, who has received numerous national and international engineering honors, joins the roughly 650 distinguished ASCE members elected since the designation was established in 1853.
