Arts and Transit Project enters new phase with temporary station

Construction on the Arts and Transit Project enters a new phase this week.

As of the end of Dinky service on Friday, Aug. 23, the existing Princeton Station will be closed.

During the weekend of Aug. 24-25, there will be no rail service between Princeton and Princeton Junction. For this weekend, NJ TRANSIT shuttle buses will substitute for the Dinky; view schedules (.pdf) and more information online. They will continue to use the existing bus stop on University Place near Princeton Station.

On Monday, Aug. 26, Princeton Station will open at a new, temporary location on Alexander Street, and Dinky rail service will resume. Visit the NJ TRANSIT website for more information.

Also on Monday, Aug. 26, the meter and permit Princeton Station parking lot will open at its new location on Alexander Street. The existing parking lot will be closed except for short-term Wawa customer parking at the north end with access via University Place.

More detail about the changes follows.

Transit stops

  • As of Monday, Aug. 26, Princeton Station will be relocated approximately 1,200 feet south of the existing station with access from Alexander Street; this is a temporary location until fall 2014 when the new transit plaza will open. The temporary train platform will be located at the southeast corner of the new Princeton Station parking lot. Bus stops will be located along Alexander Street adjacent to the station. Maps showing the relocated services are available online.

The TigerPaWW bus provides an option for transport between Princeton and Princeton Junction during the construction of the Arts and Transit Project transit plaza in addition to the Dinky, which will be operating between Princeton Junction and the temporary Princeton Station.
  • When traveling from Princeton to Princeton Junction, the TigerPaWW will run between the University Place bus stop (at the former Princeton Station) and Princeton Junction.
