Slavic film series to screen 'Hammer and Sickle'
The 2013-14 Slavic film series "Out of the Iron Closet" continues with "Hammer and Sickle" at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, in Jones Hall, Room 100. "Hammer and Sickle" (Russia, 1994), set in the 1930s, blends science fiction, comedy and melodrama to tell the story a state-sponsored sex-change operation of a peasant woman to model Soviet man. The series is sponsored by the Program in Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies, the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures, and the Program in Gender and Sexuality Studies. Series films are shown with English subtitles.
