Maeda to speak on changing 'STEM' to 'STEAM'

John Maeda, president of the Rhode Island School of Design, will present a talk "STEM to STEAM: The Meaning of Innovation" at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, in the Friend Center, Room 101. Maeda posits that we need to add "art" to turn the educational initiative "STEM" — which focuses on science, technology, engineering and math — into "STEAM" in order to attain an enlightened form of innovation where art, design, technology and business meet.
