Loh named Princeton University fire marshal

Scott W. Loh, a 22-year veteran in fire service has been appointed fire marshal in Princeton University's Department of Public Safety effective Oct. 21.

"We are very excited to have Scott join the department,” said Paul L. Ominsky, executive director of Public Safety. "He brings a unique blend of experience and a strong understanding of fire safety education. He will be a wonderful addition to our Fire Marshal office.”

Loh began his career in 1991 in the Mercerville Fire Company and served as a chief level officer for six years supervising both career and volunteer staff. He continues to be involved as a lifetime member.
 
Loh worked for eight years as site protection specialist and emergency servicers driver operator at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory, a collaborative national center for fusion energy research.
 
Loh served for four years as the director of the Fire Academy at the Mercer County Community College, where he has been an instructor for the past two years. His responsibilities included the administration and operations of the for-credit and non-credit Fire Science and Emergency Preparedness program. He also acted as liaison to local, county, state and federal agencies, and developed and enforced fire academy and training ground policies and procedures.
 
Loh will supervise the associate fire marshal and collaborate closely with stakeholders on and off campus, including the offices of Environmental Health and Safety, Design and Construction, Housing and Real Estates Services, the associate director for emergency preparedness planning, and local fire officials.

Loh attended the National Fire Academy and Emergency Management Institute at Emmittsburg, Md. He has completed numerous fire prevention and code enforcement courses, obtained several professional certificates with a large emphasis on education and training, and received several awards and honors in recognition of his life-long dedication to fire service.
