Laura: Hi my name is Laura, and I'm the USG
project lead for the Wintersession Program.
Wintersession is a weeklong program for undergraduates
to pursue academic and extracurricular enrichment
beyond what is offered during the school year.
So we run the program during intersession
break, which is just normally a gap during
the school year. So the motivation for the
Wintersession came from the belief the Princeton
students have so much to teach one other both
inside and outside of the classroom, and we
really want to capture the time that intersession
offers to students, that rare break in the
academic schedule, and also build more of
a community around intersession break.
Chhaya: I love the whole idea of students
teaching students. I think there are a lot
of things people on campus know that you never
get an opportunity to see. And being able
to take a short no-pressure course is really,
Rishi: I think one of the best moments of
Wintersession was on the second day. We did
two classes and at the end of the second day,
we had everyone go up in groups. And I had
a co-instructor Jonece, ands we took turns
performing with two different groups. And
then, the first time I got to sit down and
actually watch the other group perform with
Jonece, it absolutely blew my mind how much
the people had improved in the two days, right?
People with no experiences came and just came
because they thought it would be fun, and
seeing everyone's faces and having a really
good time and being really good.
Hannah: If there's something that you're interested
in, and something you're looking to foster
a community around, this is the opportunity
to do that.
Ramie: It's something I can take outside of
my academic classes, and I have all this time
to do it and it's completely free and open,
and it allows me to take myself less seriously,
and these are skills I can use outside of
the classroom. These are life skills, practical
skills, or hobbies that I wouldn't be able
to pursue during the year.
Justin: I would recommend WS because it really
gives you the opportunity to investigate things
that you otherwise wouldn't have the time
for. Intersession is a period that's sort
of like a random week after finals that you
really get a chance to do whatever you want.
In this case, to really learn a lot about
yourself and what you want to do with your
career and life.
Kyannah: It's nice to just become comfortable
with your fellow classmates and enjoy learning,
enjoy the process of learning under a less
stressful and less competitive environment.
Laura: It's been really exciting to see this
program come together over the past five months,
and we're really excited for Wintersession
to become a long-standing Princeton tradition.
