NEWS BRIEF: Graduate student in composition Akiho awarded Rome Prize

Andy Akiho, a doctoral candidate in the Department of Music's Program in Composition and a composer/performer whose interests run from steel pan to percussion to traditional classical music, has been awarded the Luciano Berio Rome Prize. The Rome Prize is awarded annually to approximately 30 individuals who represent the highest standard of excellence in the arts and humanities. Prize recipients are invited to the American Academy in Rome — a hybrid center for the arts and humanities originally founded in 1894 — for six months to two years.
