Syukuro Manabe, a senior meteorologist in Princeton University's Program in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, received the 2015 Benjamin Franklin Medal in Earth and Environmental Science from Philadelphia's Franklin Institute for his work developing accurate climate models. Manabe was recognized for his "pioneering research on the sensitivity of Earth's climate to increasing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and his development of global climate models, which have led to fundamental advances in the understanding of climate variability and to methods for predicting future climate change." The awards program will be held in April 2015. Established in 1824, the institute's award program recognizes innovative scientists whose work refelcts the principles of namesake Benjamin Franklin.
