FACULTY AWARD: MacMillan awarded 2015 Ernst Schering Prize for chemistry

David MacMillan, Princeton University's James S. McDonnell Distinguished University Professor of Chemistry and chair of the Department of Chemistry, has received the 2015 Ernst Schering Prize, one of Germany's most prestigious science awards. The Berlin-based Ernst Schering Foundation recognized MacMillan for his "pioneering contributions in the area of organocatalysis and organo-cascade catalysis" related to the application of new catalysis concepts to the total syntheses of natural products and pharmaceuticals. MacMillan will receive a 50,000-euro prize and attend an award ceremony Sept. 28, 2015, at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Science and Humanities. Established in 1991, the Ernst Schering Prize is given annually for excellence in basic research in the fields of chemistry, biology or medicine.
