Ice skating allowed on frozen Lake Carnegie in Princeton

The recent run of cold weather has resulted in Lake Carnegie freezing over and being available for ice skating as of 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14. Members of the University and local communities are invited to take advantage of the five-plus inches of ice.

Skaters and walkers are allowed on the ice during daylight hours — 10 a.m. to dusk — between the bridges on Washington Road and Harrison Street.

Skating and walking are permitted at one's own risk only when white flags are flying from the poles at the boathouse near the Washington Road bridge and at the Harrison Street bridge.

Red flags mean that the ice is not safe.

This update to a previous announcement about Princeton's campus safety related to Hurricane Sandy contains new information about road closings and power outages. Because of severe weather related to Hurricane Sandy, Princeton University will be closed on Tuesday, Oct. 30, except for critical and essential staff. If weather permits, additional critical campus functions may be opened on Tuesday.
