RESEARCH AWARD: NSF renews funds for Princeton Center for Complex Materials

Princeton University was one of 12 institutions nationwide to receive a total of $56 million in funds from the National Science Foundation to support Materials Research Science and Engineering Centers (MRSECs). The award renews the NSF's existing support for the Princeton Center for Complex Materials (PCCM) through October 2020, and includes $6.39 million for at least the first two years. Established in 1994, the PCCM is an interdisciplinary research center focused in multiple areas of materials research with various important applications, including semiconductors, new types of lasers, quantum computing, and very thin polymer films. PCCM researchers also participate in numerous educational projects, such as a summer science and engineering research workshop for undergraduates nationwide; a three-week science camp, known as PUMA, for students from Trenton's Central High; and a series of one-day science camps for community K-12 students and their parents.
