Richard Myers, who has more than 25 years of experience in higher education administration with a focus on the intersection of strategic planning, budget and finance, and the enabling of academic initiatives, has been appointed vice provost for academic and budget planning at Princeton University. His appointment is effective Aug. 31.
Myers is senior associate dean of the College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Virginia. At Princeton, he will report to Provost David Lee and serve as his deputy in the areas of academic and budgetary planning, and their intersection with fundraising.
"Rick brings a breadth and depth of experience in many facets of academic administration," said Lee. "He has dedicated his career to supporting the core missions of Williams College, Smith College and the University of Virginia, and I am thrilled that he will now bring his values and expertise, which have served those institutions so well, to the culture of supporting excellence here at Princeton."
Since 2008, Myers has served as the principal adviser to the dean of the College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Virginia on strategic planning. He has worked with faculty on developing academic initiatives and has overseen the school's financial planning, human resources, and facilities and space programming. He also has taught freshman seminars and advised undergraduate students.

From 2003 to 2008, Myers was the chief planning and budget officer at Smith College. Previously, he was associate provost and director of budgets at Williams College for five years.
Earlier in his career, Myers was an assistant to the provost at U.Va., a program coordinator at the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia, and an admission officer at the University of Rhode Island.
Myers' degrees are all from the University of Virginia — he received a Ph.D. in higher education, a master's degree in education and a bachelor's degree in history of art.
