FACULTY HONOR: Tilghman joins national panel examining future of higher education

Shirley M. Tilghman, president of Princeton University, emeritus, and professor of molecular biology and public affairs, has been named to a national commission under the American Academy of Arts and Sciences that will examine how to better the delivery of higher education in the future. The Comission on the Future of Higher Education will look at the various methods through which the 17 million Americans engaged at least part-time in postsecondary education learn. The commission will identify current trends and submit a report detailing how the opportunities and challenges facing higher education as the nation evolves demographically, financially and technologically. The three-year initiative is supported by $2.2 million from the Carnegie Corporation of New York. A listing of the commission members is available on the academy's website.
