FACULTY AWARD: Billings wins the Charles J. Goodwin Award of Merit in classics

Joshua Billings, assistant professor of classics, has been awarded the Charles J. Goodwin Award of Merit for his book "Genealogy of the Tragic: Greek Tragedy and German Philosophy" (Princeton University Press, 2014). The prize, named in honor of a long-time member and generous benefactor of the Society for Classical Studies (SCS), is awarded for outstanding contributions to classical scholarship published by members of the association within the preceding three years. Billings will accept the award on Jan. 8 at the annual SCS meeting in San Francisco.

Devin Fore, an associate professor of German, has been awarded the Aldo and Jeanne Scaglione Prize from the Modern Language Association for his book "Realism After Modernism: The Rehumanization of Art and Literature."

Senior Wenger awarded Keasbey Scholarship for study in Britain .

Senior Ayelet Wenger has been awarded the Keasbey Scholarship, which provides the opportunity to study at selected British universities. Wenger, of Columbus, Ohio, is a classics major who is also pursuing certificates in Judaic studies and Hellenic studies. She will pursue an M.Phil. in Judaism and Christianity in the Graeco-Roman World at the University of Oxford.

Theodore Ziolkowski, renowned scholar of German and European literature and ‘one of the true giants of the Princeton faculty’ dies at 88 .

Theodore "Ted" Ziolkowski, former dean of Princeton's Graduate School, the Class of 1900 Professor of Modern Languages, Emeritus, and professor of Germanic languages and literatures and comparative literature, died Dec. 5, 2020. He was 88.

FACULTY AWARD: Okeke-Agulu wins Herskovits Award from African Studies Association .

Chika Okeke-Agulu, associate professor of art and archaeology and African American studies, has been awarded the Melville J. Herskovits Award from the African Studies Association (ASA) for his book "Postcolonial Modernism: Art and Decolonization in 20th-Century Nigeria" (Duke University Press, 2015). The award is given to the author of the most important scholarly work in African studies published in English during the preceding year.

Gross and Stewart receive Behrman Award for the humanities .

Princeton professors Jan Gross and Susan Stewart have received the University's Howard T. Behrman Award for Distinguished Achievement in the Humanities.
