The Commencement program begins with the academic procession at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, on the front campus on Nassau Street. The University's 269th Commencement ceremony is slated for 11 a.m. on the lawn in front of Nassau Hall. All guests must be seated by 10:20 a.m. Princeton President Christopher L. Eisgruber will preside over the event and address the graduates. Several honorary degrees traditionally are conferred, with names being announced that day.
Distribution of diplomas in the residential colleges for seniors follows the program.

The event will be webcast live and archived online for later viewing on the Princeton Media Central site. Simulcast sites on campus for those wishing to view the events indoors are available at Dillon Gymnasium and at Richardson Auditorium in Alexander Hall.
Princeton traces its founding to a royal charter granted on Oct. 22, 1746, by King George the Second of England. The first Commencement exercises were held in 1748, in Newark, then home of the College of New Jersey, as Princeton was originally called. Six students were graduated at the first Commencement; today there are approximately 1,300 seniors receiving undergraduate degrees and more than 900 graduate students receiving advanced degrees. Since 1922, Commencement has been held on the front lawn of Nassau Hall.
