The Baccalaureate service will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 29, in the University Chapel. The speaker will be Randall Kennedy, a Princeton alumnus, former trustee and the Michael R. Klein Professor of Law at Harvard Law School.
The interfaith Baccalaureate service reflects the diversity of religious life at Princeton. As its name suggests, the service is a celebration focused especially on the members of the senior class — those receiving bachelor's degrees. The service also honors those about to receive graduate degrees.
The Baccalaureate Address — once called the sermon — is one of the University's oldest traditions. Until the early 1970s, the president of the University served as both Baccalaureate and Commencement speaker. Since then, speakers at Baccalaureate have included representatives of religious institutions and public figures chosen to speak on topics related to human values, broadly considered.
Seating inside the chapel is reserved for seniors and the faculty procession. Guest seating is available on Cannon Green, where the ceremony will be broadcast on a large screen. Indoor simulcast sites for Baccalaureate include: McCormick Hall, Room 101; Betts Auditorium in the School of Architecture; and Richardson Auditorium in Alexander Hall — all are air conditioned and have the easiest access for guests with disabilities. Other simulcast sites are McCosh Hall, Rooms 10 and 50, and Dillon Gym. An interactive campus map is at this link.
The event also is scheduled to be webcast live and archived online for later viewing on the University's Media Central site.
