The Princeton University Board of Trustees has approved the appointment of four faculty members, including two full professors, one associate professor and one assistant professor.
Professor
Ran Raz, in the Department of Computer Science, will join the faculty in winter 2017 from the Weizmann Institute of Science, where he has been on the faculty since 1994. Raz earned his B.S. and Ph.D. from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and was a postdoctoral fellow at Princeton from 1992-94.
Raz's primary research area is complexity theory, with an emphasis on proving lower bounds for computational models.
Yoram Singer, in the Department of Computer Science, will join the faculty in fall 2017 from Google Research, where he has served as a senior research scientist since 2005. Having earned his B.S. and M.S. from the Technion and Ph.D. from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Singer taught on the faculty of Hebrew University from 1999-2007 and previously worked at AT&T Bell Labs.
Singer concentrates his research on the foundations of machine learning and perception.
Associate professor
Laurence Ralph, in anthropology and African American studies, will join the faculty in fall 2017 with continuing tenure. The John L. Loeb Associate Professor of the Social Sciences at Harvard, where he has taught since 2011, Ralph completed his B.A. at the Georgia Institute of Technology and Ph.D. at the University of Chicago. His work examines the nexus of critical medical and political anthropology, African American studies, and the emerging scholarship on disability.
Assistant professor
Maurizio Chiaramonte, in civil and environmental engineering, will join the faculty in February 2017. A postdoctoral research associate at Princeton since 2016, Chiaramonte specializes in computational mechanics. He earned his Ph.D. from Stanford University, M.S. from the University of Washington and B.S. from the University of Maine.
