Cafe Antoine Student Gallery
At the Cafe Antoine Student Gallery, Mathey College celebrates the creative energy of students on campus.
With quality lighting and hanging arrangements suitable for most canvases, prints, matted photographs, and other such materials, this space provides students with the opportunity to showcase artwork and creative projects.
Cafe Antoine is located on the first floor of Hamilton Hall, just beside the lobby of Mathey Common Room. Opening receptions for upcoming exhibitions are advertised online through Mathey College, and most shows are on display for three weeks.

Artist statement:
"The photographs exhibited here are selections from my past work that have inspired me, directly or indirectly, to pursue the themes found in my current work. This exhibition provides a glimpse at the seeds of mystery, gothicism, and female sexuality that will culminate in my senior thesis exhibited in the Chancellor Green Rotunda on April 26."

Sharon Gao ('15): "The World from an Artist's Perspective."

Artist Statement:
Seeing the world through an artist's eye opens up an entirely new way of interpreting and understanding life. The added dimensions of light versus shadow, color and texture, motion and emotion foster a diverse awareness of one's surroundings and add a rich layer of sensory experiences. Experimenting with mediums and artistic styles that range from the careful placement of a single pencil stroke to the wildly emotional movement of thrown paint, this collection of work attempts to create physical manifestations of ideas and emotions. It is a small peek at how an artist sees the world and the struggles of creating something beautiful from a mere feeling.

"Nature is my sanctuary, a place where I can escape the complexities of life and truly be myself. Whether I am researching primates in Tanzania or walking through my backyard, observing the intricacies of organisms and their environment provides this exhilarating sense of order that I can only hope to capture through images. This exhibition aims to provide a glimpse into a parallel world that is often neglected and under-appreciated in this modern age."
