Scholarly Approaches to Teaching and Learning

The McGraw Center, in partnership with the Graduate School and the Office of the Dean of Faculty, offers a year-long teaching seminar for graduate students and faculty. The seminar provides a unique environment, particularly important in a research university, for participants to focus intensively on the goals and practices of teaching as well as the challenges encountered by their undergraduate students as they confront the assumptions and conventions of disciplines across the curriculum. Throughout the year, participants engage with current research and literature on a range of issues in higher education and apply the lessons from that material in developing strategies for inclusive classroom teaching and for assessing and reflecting on their students’ achievements.

Seminar meetings are scheduled for 3 or 4 Friday mornings each semester, 9:30 am – 12:30 pm and small breakout group meetings are held in between seminar sessions.
