Positions Available
Postdoctoral Opportunities
Updated 7/28/11
Currently, we do not have open funded positions for postdoctoral researchers in the laboratory. Postdoctoral positions are available, but require that the candidate obtain outside funding. If you are interested in postdoctoral research in left-right patterning and morphogenesis, cilia in development, or the cell biology of kidney cyst formation, please send a letter of inquiry with your CV to Dr. Burdine.
Graduate Rotation Students
Updated 7/28/11
We have positions available for graduate students to rotate in the laboratory during 2010-2011. Projects are generally tailored to suit your interests or to allow you to learn new techniques. No experience in lab work or developmental biology is required. We request only a willingness to learn and participate in the lab.
If you are interested in rotating, please contact Dr. Burdine to schedule time to talk about projects.
Neuroscience Directions
updated 7/28/11
We are starting new project aimed at developing the zebrafish as a model for understanding UBE3A function in neurons. This project will involve creating Zinc-finger knockout strains for UBE3A and determining the developmental consequence. We will be establishing new protocols in the lab for analyzing behavior and learning to better assess UBE3A function. This project is open to interested graduate students and postdocs. As this is a new direction for the lab, this project is best suited for someone who likes to work independently and develop new techniques.
If you are interested, please contact Dr. Burdine.
Undergraduate Thesis - Neuroscience related
Updated 7/28/11
We have started a new project on the role of Ube3A in neurogenesis in zebrafish. This project will involve some basic characterization of this gene and developing new tools and techniques for examining neurogenesis in our laboratory. This project is best suited to someone who likes to work independently and figure things out on their own. Laboratory experience would be helpful. This project will be suitable for completion of the Neuroscience Certificate.
Interested juniors or sophomores should contact Dr. Burdine to discuss this opportunity.
Undergraduate Thesis - Development Related
Updated 7/28/11
We have projects available for interested undergraduates on the roles of cilia in development. The project will be developed with the interest of the student in mind. For example, if you are interested in cystic kidney disease, we will tailor the project to be more related to this aspect of our work. If you want to work on left-right patterning or heart morphogenesis, we have projects in these areas as well. No laboratory experience is required. We request only a willingness to learn and a commitment toward making suitable progress.
Interested juniors or sophomores should contact Dr. Burdine to discuss this opportunity.
