There are three conditions you must fulfill in order to enter the competition:
1) You must be currently enrolled as a student at Princeton.
2) You must show evidence of being active in the musical life of the university community, as, for example, an orchestral or chamber music player, or as a member of a choral group.
3) You must present a signed statement from your studio instructor to the effect that you will be able to successfully perform your proposed work in public. (Original copies only. No faxes, Xeroxed copies, or e-mails will be accepted.)
Any questions should be directed to Michael Pratt, 8-4259. At the time of the competition, you must have the entire work prepared for the judges, although it is unlikely that you will have time to go through the entire work.
There are no repertory restrictions.
The winner from the previous year may not apply. Performing from memory is preferable, but not required. You must provide your own accompanist.
The conductor of the University Orchestra will screen all applications. The judges will be distinguished members of the New Jersey musical community, and their decision is final.
The competition will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2014 in McAlpin Rehearsal Room. The winner will perform with the University Orchestra on its concerts of
March 7 & 8, 2014.
