The Princeton University Art Museum and the Department of Music present a performance of excerpts from the opera-ballet Les Elemens (The Elements) under the direction of Professor Wendy Heller. The two Boucher paintings on exhibition were likely commissioned in conjunction with performances of excerpts from Les Elemens performed between 1747 and 1749 in the Theatres des Petits Cabinets at Versailles-supervised by and starring Madame de Pompadour, the Kings mistress. The performers include an early music ensemble and feature French baroque dances.
