PRINCETON UNIVERSITY ORCHESTRA The Princeton University Orchestra opens the spring semester with two concerts featuring three of the winners of the 2013 Concerto Competition on Friday evening, March 8 and Saturday evening, March 9 at Richardson Auditorium in Alexander Hall. Led by Maestro Michael Pratt, Director of Princeton’s Program in Musical Performance, and guest conductor Ruth Ochs, both performances begin at 7:30 pm. The program includes Bach’s Piano Concerto No. 5 in F Minor, BWV 1086 performed by Paul von Autenried ’16, Vivaldi’s Bassoon Concerto in E Minor, RV 484 featuring Louisa Slosar ’15, and Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in C Major, Op. 15 performed by Jeff Li ’13. In addition, the orchestra performs Wagner’s Preludes to Acts I and III, Liebestod from Tristan und Isolde. In the words of Maestro Pratt, “Wagner's Tristan is arguably the most passionate music ever written, and will be played with the white-hot intensity of first love by Princeton's amazing young orchestra.” He adds: “The concert featuring the winners of the annual concerto competition is always one of our highlights. These brilliant students always amaze our audiences, playing at a dazzling level. That they do is all the more astounding considering that they are maintaining a demanding academic load as well.” Tickets $15 general, $5 students. Call University Ticketing at 609-258-9220.
