Richardson Chamber Players: "Constable & Landscape"
Hosted by James C. Steward, Director of the Princeton University Art Museum.
Princeton's resident ensemble of performance faculty, distinguished guest artists and supremely talented students play works by Debussy, Beethoven, Britten and Schumann. This concert is presented in collaboration with the Princeton University Art Museum's exhibit "JOHN CONSTABLE: OIL SKETCHES FROM THE VICTORIA AND ALBERT MUSEUM" on display March 17 to June 12, 2012. The paintings of John Constable have long been recognized as a precursor to Impressionism. His landscapes, in particular, are so evocative that one critic wrote, "the atmosphere possesses a characteristic humidity about it, that almost imparts the wish for an umbrella." Umbrellas may not be necessary, but the music will evoke the rich, impressionist world of this master painter.
