Yarn/Wire is a quartet of two percussionists (Ian Antonio and Russell Greenberg) and two pianists (Laura Barger and Ning Yu). This instrumental combination allows the ensemble flexibility to slip effortlessly between classics of the repertoire and modern works that continue to forge new boundaries.
Founded in 2005, Yarn/Wire is admired for the energy and precision they bring to performances of today's most adventurous music. With close to 40 works written for the ensemble, newly commissioned pieces form the centerpiece of this vision, and Yarn/Wire finds its collaborations with young composers from the United States and abroad among its most rewarding experiences. These collaborative initiatives point towards the emergence of a new and lasting repertoire, and partnerships with genre-bending artists such as Pete Swanson, The Theatre of a Two-Headed Calf, and Tristan Perich have led to the creation of work that is "spare and strange and very, very new."
