"Football Concert" Set at Princeton October 22
PRINCETON, New Jersey — Two of the nation's most venerable choral ensembles, the Glee Clubs of Princeton and Harvard Universities, come together on Friday October 22 at 8:00 PM in the beautiful surroundings of Richardson Auditorium on Princeton's campus. The occasion is the annual "Football Concert" traditionally held on the eve of the Football game between the two schools. These concerts are always lively events, combining beautiful choral music with traditional fight songs, and a couple of pranks thrown in for good measure - but next Friday's version is special for another reason.
Both Princeton and Harvard Universities have appointed new choral directors this year, so this concert marks the debut performance for Andrew Clark, of Harvard, and Gabriel Crouch, of Princeton. Crouch hails from England, where he spent the first decade of his professional life as the baritone in the renowned a cappella group 'The King's Singers', and he is no stranger to the traditions of venerable old Universities: "I was a choral scholar at Cambridge, so I've participated in a few ancient ceremonies", he says. "But this is such a vibrant campus for singers, with so many excellent vocal groups and so much interest in the choral art, and in ways to move it forward. I can't wait for the Glee Club's season to start." As well as performances by the respective Glee Clubs, the concert will also feature performances by Harvard's Glee Club Lite and Princeton's Chamber Choir. Tickets are $20 (general); $8 (students).
