SAINT-SAËNS: COMPLETE PIANO WORKS VOL. 2 RELEASED
Dear friends and fellow travelers,
I'm extremely pleased to announce the release of Volume 2 of my 5 Volume traversal of Camille Saint-Saëns' Complete Piano Works:
Saint-Saëns: Complete Piano Works Vol. 2
My latest recording, on Naxos’ new Grand Piano Label, focuses on the Baroque and Classical forms that Saint-Saëns loved recasting into more Romantic realms, and transformed via his dynamic, imaginative and ingenious ideas. My program opens with his Allegro d'après le 3e Concerto, Op. 29, a brilliant solo piano arrangement of the opening movement of Saint-Saëns' Third Piano Concerto. This is followed by his 4 movement Suite pour le Piano, Op. 90, opening with a Prelude & Fugue, and including a Gavotte and Gigue that almost sound as if Poulenc had written them 70 years later! Saint-Saëns' famous Allegro Appassionato, Op. 70 and his witty and explosive Thème varié, Op. 97, follow. The program concludes with his Six Fugues, Op 161, Saint-Saëns' final large-scale work for solo piano: a masterly and complex set of character studies that just also happen to be fugues.
Available from Naxos, Amazon, iTunes, Arkiv, and elsewhere.
All my best,
Geoffrey Burleson
