Postdoctoral Fellowships

The application deadline for postdoctoral fellowships starting in September 2014 has passed. Please check back in late summer for information on possible 2015 postdoctoral fellowships. What follows is last year's advertisement, and a future advertisement would likely be similar.

Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Department of Near Eastern Studies

Princeton University

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in the study of the diplomatic history or international relations of the Near East, understood to encompass the Middle East, North Africa, the Caucasus, and South Asia. Applicants are expected to work with research material in one or more Near Eastern language, and must have the Ph.D. in hand by September 1, 2014. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the Department in several ways, including teaching an undergraduate course (subject to sufficient enrollment and approval by the Dean of the Faculty), advising undergraduates in independent work, and potentially organizing a workshop. The appointee will devote the bulk of his or her time, however, to writing, research, and broadening his or her knowledge of the Near East. The appointment is for ten months, from September 2014 through June 2015. Competitive salary plus benefits. The appointee will have a small research fund.

Applicants should apply online at http://jobs.princeton.edu by December 15, 2013, and submit a current C.V., a proposal describing the research and writing project(s) to be pursued at Princeton of no more than 1,000 words; a personal statement of research and scholarly interests no more than 750 words in length; a four hundred word description of one or two proposed undergraduate seminars or lecture courses;  two writing samples, such as dissertation chapters, articles, or papers; and contact information for three references.
