Ilana Witten receives a Pew Scholarship and a Sloan Foundation Fellowship
Ilana Witten, an assistant professor in psychology and PNI, is the recipient of a Sloan Foundation Fellowship and a Pew Scholarship for 2013. These awards seek to support and stimulate fundamental research by early-career scientists of outstanding promise. Dr. Witten's proposals focus on clarifying the role of neuromodulation is supporting working memory. She has previously developed new approaches to control activity in specific subpopulations of neurons in behaving rats using optogenetics, and her lab is now applying these methods to uncover the role of the temporal dynamics of activity in neuromodulatory neurons in supporting working memory.
