Profile
Research in my laboratory focuses on structural plasticity in the adult mammalian brain, including dendritic remodeling and neurogenesis (the production of new neurons). We seek to understand how brain structure is altered by experience, such as learning and stress, and how these changes influence functions of the hippocampus.
We are interested in addressing the following basic questions: How do hormones modulate the production of new neurons? What types of experience affect structural plasticity? How does reward protect the brain from the negative actions of elevated stress hormones? What are the mechanisms that underlie hormonal and experiential modulation of structural plasticity? What role does structural plasticity play in brain function?
