Academic Advising and Preprofessional Studies

Health Professions
Students considering a career in the health professions, including careers in medicine, veterinary medicine, dentistry, public health, or other health-related professions, are strongly encouraged to refer to the Health Professions Advising website and to meet with a health professions advisor at the earliest opportunity.

Mental Health Professions
Students considering a career in one of the mental health professions (clinical psychology, psychiatry, social work, counseling, or educational psychology) should contact Professor Ronald Comer, preferably by the middle of their sophomore year. A meeting for students interested in mental health careers is also conducted by Professor Comer each fall.

Law
Students considering law school should review the Pre-Law Information on the Career Service’s website.  In addition, all students are encouraged to attend a prelaw orientation workshop (held each semester), law school information meetings, and alumni panels that are designed to acquaint students with various aspects of the legal profession. Call the office for appointments and walk-in times.

Business
The decision to attend business school is a complicated one, and students are encouraged to review the MBA Information section of the Career Services home page.  Since most MBA programs require a minimum of one year of post-graduation employment prior to applying, this will address many questions related to both the decision and the application process. Business school catalogs and directories are available in Career Services.
