Language Consortium

The Consortium for Language Teaching and Learning was created to enhance the quality of language teaching and learning on its member campuses, to consolidate and build upon the strengths of the members' programs, and to prepare undergraduate and graduate students better for their future careers in international scholarship, business, and diplomacy.

Ten major private research universities constitute the Consortium: Brown University, the University of Chicago, Columbia University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of Pennsylvania, Princeton University, and Yale University.

The consortium seeks to respond both to the individual needs of its member institutions by providing support for faculty development and other long-term improvements (campus-based projects) and to broader national needs by identifying, creating, and distributing print and electronic materials (consortial projects). The activities of the consortium embrace a wide range of methodologies and demonstrate a full commitment to intellectually sound and culturally authentic notions of communication. The consortium supports conferences, workshops, the development of curricular materials, faculty development programs, and the study and adoption of technology.

Faculty interested in applying for funding should submit their proposal to the administrative liaison, Dean Peter Quimby, by the appropriate deadlines.
