Supported Projects of the Consortium

The consortium supports two categories of projects: campus-based grants and consortium grants. An online sortable list of grants awarded is provided by the Consortium for Language Teaching and Learning.

Campus-based Grants are intended to meet specifically local needs and to promote long-term change. They may included a wide variety of activities, e.g., development of curricular materials in print, audiovisual, or multimedia format; research on the efficacy of projects; development of Web pages; series of visiting lecturers; and local workshops. There are four opportunities to submit proposals: the last working day of October, January, March, and May. The proposals are circulated by e-mail to the campus group for a vote. A report about the project will be due before the annual meeting of the Governing Board of the consortium, which meets in early May. Reports will be due no later than May 1 for projects funded during the summer and the fall.

Consortium Grants are designed to foster collaboration and cooperation among member campuses. In recognition of this aim, successful proposals will involve the active participation of project teams representing three or more consortium institutions and will address a designated theme, which changes annually. They are intended to meet national needs and are often longer-term and more complex projects than campus-based projects. The Governing Board sets aside $100,000 per year for consortial projects and reviews proposals twice a year, in the fall and in the spring. The deadline is in early October for projects beginning after Jan. 1 and late March for projects beginning after June 1.
