Rutgers University
Princeton students may take courses at Rutgers University for credit and free of charge on the recommendation of the Dean of the College. This exchange program is intended to provide students with courses not offered at Princeton, for example, in a less-commonly taught foreign language.
Whom should I see in the Office of the Dean of the
College about taking courses at Rutgers?
Make an appointment to see Dean Frank Ordiway by calling 8-1998.
What should I do in advance of the meeting?
Consult the Rutgers
schedule of courses for the course you would like to take to make sure that it
is offered in the semester and at a time that fits your schedule. Come with
that information about the course to the meeting with Dean Ordiway.
Are there any fees for taking Rutgers
courses?
No, Rutgers courses are completely free to Princeton students. You may receive a bill from Rutgers but you can ignore it.
Westminster Choir College
Princeton University and Westminster Choir College, located in Princeton Borough, have an exchange agreement that permits Princeton students to take advantage of the resources at Westminster for instrumental and vocal instruction and that permits Westminster students to take courses at Princeton. This exchange program is available without charge to both Princeton and Westminster students.
Whom should I see about taking instrument or voice lessons at Westminster Choir College?
Most Princeton students who take lessons at Westminster are concentrators in music or are earning a certificate in musical performance. Students should first speak to the departmental representative in music, who will write a letter recommending lessons to Dean Frank Ordiway. You will then meet with Dean Ordiway, who will write a letter authorizing the lessons or course work. At Westminster, you will meet with Dean Marshall Onofrio, who administers the program.
What is available at Westminster?
Students can take instrumental lessons, typically in piano or organ, or voice lessons, or specialized courses in such subjects as conducting. Princeton students can take one half-hour lesson per week, or one course, during the semester without charge. Students are personally responsible for payment for anything beyond the single half-hour lesson per week.
Is there anything else I should know?
You cannot receive Princeton credit for lessons or course work you do at Westminster. You are responsible for your own transportation (no more than 30 minutes by foot) to Westminster. Also, the Princeton and Westminster academic calendars do not coincide; make sure you know when the semester begins and ends and when the semester break occurs.
If I am a Westminster student interested in a course at Princeton, what should I do?
Please see Dean Marshall Onofrio at Westminster to discuss enrolling in Princeton courses.
