Confidentiality
The process of self-identification for students is voluntary, however any student seeking academic or physical accommodations must register with the Office of Disability Services (ODS). ODS respects the sensitive nature of the disclosure and holds itself accountable for providing the most appropriate accommodations for students while maintaining the highest level of confidentiality possible. Faculty and staff disclosures and requests are treated with sincere consideration and confidentiality.
Our efforts to maintain confidentiality are based on the following policies:
- All disability-related information including documentation, correspondence, consultations, and accommodations are considered confidential.
- Release of information or documentation to a non-University third party can be made only if a student signs a “Release of Information” form indicating consent to release to the designated party. An exception to this would be the release of documentation to an outside consultant engaged by Princeton for documentation evaluation.
- ODS may discuss specific disability-related information with Princeton faculty or staff in order to facilitate the implementation of academic or physical accommodations for the student, but only on a need-to-know basis.
- Specific information may be released to first aid personnel or Public Safety as a preventive safety measure and in the event of a medical emergency.
