Adviser training
Newly selected RCAs are expected to complete two pre-service training sessions in the spring semester: one on leadership, and one on active listening. Each of the two training sessions will be offered multiple times over the course of the spring semester to accommodate student schedules. Returning RCAs may, if they wish, attend and count either or both of these pre-service training sessions towards their in-service training requirements. Times will be announced early in the spring semester. University-wide and college-specific spring training for all RCAs occurs during the first week of reading period in May. The specific date and times for these training sessions will also be announced early in the spring semester. We expect advisers to plan their academic and other commitments in advance so that they can attend both their college’s and the university’s mandatory training sessions. Fall training, which is also mandatory, takes place the week before Freshman Orientation begins. Additionally, RCAs have in-service requirements over the course of the year in which they serve.
