3. Introducing - Projects Board Office Hours
Office hours with Projects Board Members will be held from 4:30-5:30 PM on Monday afternoons in the USG Office on weeks with Projects Board meetings. There are no appointments necessary--students and groups applying for funding can come in to go over Projects Board funding policies, their specific application, and any other questions they have about the process.
If I am trying to plan an event on campus, how soon should I start talking to the Projects Board?
Answer: Right away! Many student groups make the mistake of only contacting the board when they have already secured a venue and vendors and are in need of money. By attending our weekly office hours with a member of the board, you can avoid any hiccups in the funding process by running ideas by us first. Whether it’s suggestions about a location, food, or programming, our team can help you out.
What are the restrictions on funding?
Answer: There are several "strings" attached to Projects Board funding, and some rules vary on a case by case basis. Here's a few quick points you should know - we can only fund events that take place on campus that are sponsored by a recognized student organization (540- or 541- project grants). In addition, Projects Board policy does not allow us to grant retroactive funding (i.e. funding for an event that already took place.)
Once I am ready to come in front of the board to make a funding request, how detailed should I be in my budget proposal?
Answer: We ask that each item in the budget section be itemized - i.e. if you're asking for $500 for vendors, tell us that $200 is for Olives cookies and $300 is for a local Salsa band. If you're having trouble deciding what are fair prices, who to go to, or how to fill out your application, office hours are a great way to work out these problems before the meeting.
