Class of 2013
Welcome to Princeton!
The Application for Visa Certificate (.pdf) must be completed before a Certificate of Eligibility (Form I-20) can be issued to you. The Form I-20 is required for you to apply for an F-1 student visa at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate. If you are a Canadian citizen, you are exempt from reporting to an embassy or consulate to apply for a visa stamp in your passport; however, you must complete the Application for Visa Certificate in order for an I-20 to be issued to you, to enter the U.S. in F-1 status at your designated port-of entry.
To ensure that delivery of your immigration documents is not delayed, you must complete and return the Visa Certificate, with the required documentation,no later than June 5, 2009. Typically, immigration documents will be mailed to you within two weeks from our receipt of the required form(s). Please be advised that we will mail all documents via first-class air mail.Should you prefer courier service (i.e. FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc.) due to mailing concerns or delays in your home country, you must contact our office in advance and arrange for billing, as you will be responsible for the charges associated with expedited service.
The Eligibility Confirmation Form for School Transfer (.pdf) is solely for non-U.S. citizens who are currently studying in the U.S. I f you are attending another institution in the U.S. in F-1 status and plan to enroll at Princeton, you should transfer your existing SEVIS record from your current school to Princeton. Submit the transfer form to the international student adviser at your current school to determine the release date for your record in SEVIS and then submit the completed form to Office of the Dean of Undergraduate Students.
The Guide for International Students (.pdf) consists of immigration definitions and other pertinent information, which is required for you to maintain a lawful status while studying at Princeton. It includes several comprehensive details regarding the visa application process, policies and exemptions for Canadian citizens, as well as travel to Princeton and other community-related information. Please be advised that immigration regulations are subject to change. As a non-U.S. citizen, it is your responsibility to maintain your visa status. As the International Student Adviser and Designated School Official (DSO), it is my responsibility to make you aware of the regulations, as well as notify you of any federal regulation changes that may affect your status in the U.S.
As you think about the acculturation process, please be sure to register for the International Student Pre-Orientation program. Pre-or is a great way for you to start your college career, as you will begin to form lasting friendships while learning more about life at Princeton. In addition, you will be able to participate in the Outdoor Action or Community Action programs following the conclusion of Pre-or, where you will have the opportunity to connect with several of your American peers!
On behalf of the Office of the Dean of Undergraduate Students, I look forward to meeting you upon your arrival in Princeton this fall.
