Application Procedure for Princeton Graduate Student Applicants
April-May 2014: Make an appointment to meet with Hanna Lee, assistant director of Fellowship Advising, to discuss your plan for applying to the Fulbright. Bring a resume and an outline or draft of your project and personal statements.
As you begin to map out your project, be sure to consult the Fulbright website, especially the application timeline, components, and tips listed under the tab labeled "Applicants." Fulbright offers a variety of webinars throughout the application cycle. They are listed on the Fulbright website and are very helpful. You may also consult samples of project statements and personal statements of past Fulbright recipients. These essays are available in the Office of International Programs and on shelves just outside the Trustee Reading Room at Firestone Library. Hanna Lee will help you understand the application process and give you some initial feedback on your proposal, which should be seen as a work in progress.
June-August: Meet (in person or by Skype) with Hanna Lee to review and discuss your project and to arrange for some guidance over the summer. You should be in contact with Hanna Lee at least once over the summer.
September 1-30: Graduate applicants are required to schedule an interview with their assigned faculty member between September 1 and 30. A Graduate School dean will also join each of the interviews. Hanna Lee will inform you of your assigned committee members and send you a WASS link to sign up for an interview after you have submitted your Fulbright Interest Form (.doc) on September 1. A draft of your project and personal statements must be submitted to the faculty and dean on your committee at least three days prior to your scheduled interview.
September 30: Campus deadline (by 1 p.m.) to submit online completed applications, including three letters of recommendation, language assessments (if relevant), and transcripts. You will no longer be able to access the application online.
October 1: Completed applications with letters of recommendations and transcript will be delivered to the Fellowship Subcommittee to be reviewed and evaluated.
October 14, 2014: National deadline for Fulbright.
All applications will be evaluated in a preliminary national screening, the results of which will not be communicated before the end of January. Candidates who receive notification that their application was recommended for further consideration will usually receive notification of the final decision in April or May, but notification can come as late as June.
