BANGLADESH
Asian University for Women
The Asian University for Women (AUW) is a new, merit-based regional university located in Chittagong, Bangladesh, which provides quality higher education for women from across Asia and the Middle East, with a particular emphasis on women from underprivileged, rural, and refugee backgrounds. The University also seeks to address the twin problems of inadequate technology infrastructures and lack of intermediation support in developing countries. For example, our students can watch a lecture posted online, but the lecturer will be unavailable for Q&A; however, we can provide our own talented faculty to provide some answers to student questions and to facilitate discussions about what has just been learned. In that context, AUW is pleased to offer summer internships to two Princeton students who will compose a strategy for the implementation of OpenCourseWare teaching resources in AUW’s curriculum. Specific projects will include: researching and compiling a bibliography of existing OpenCourseWare; based on this research, making informed recommendations regarding adjustments to AUW’s current computer and internet infrastructure; preparing and running a mock class on the new system; creating an operational method for integrating these resources into the classroom; and other projects as they arise. The internship requires strong oral and written communication skills and strong research and writing skills Students who are detail-oriented and interested in innovations in education and who demonstrate a collaborative spirit and an ability to work independently and pro-actively would be an asset.
CAMBODIA
The Solidarity Center
The Solidarity Center is a non-profit organization that assists workers around the world in their efforts to build democratic and independent trade unions. Its members work with unions and community groups worldwide to achieve equitable, sustainable, democratic development and to help men and women everywhere stand up for their rights and improve their living and working standards. A unique internship program is offered to motivated Princeton sophomores and juniors interested in international social, labor, and human rights issues. The sites for 2010 are to be finalized, but are tentatively scheduled for Cambodia, the Dominican Republic, Indonesia, Mexico, South Africa, and Thailand. These placements require good research and writing skills. Note: The placements in the Dominican Republic require advanced Spanish skills. Interested students should attend a specific meeting on the internship that will be occur sometime in the fall, and will be presented by a Solidarity Center representative.
CHINA
Beijing Museum of Natural History
The Beijing Museum of Natural History grew out of the preparation department of National Central Museum of Natural History founded in 1951. The museum bears three main functions: the specimen collection, academic research, and the science popularization of paleontology, zoology, botany and anthropology. It is one of a few museums of natural history in China and was named as National Youth Science and Technology Education Base. The intern will work on public programs associated with environmental education. Specific intern responsibilities include analyzing and researching various journals and scientific articles about environmental protection and education and developing education programs about environmental protection in English for children between the ages of 5 and 12. An advanced skill level in Mandarin is an asset.
China Renaissance
China Renaissance is a leading independent investment bank in China. Established in Beijing in 2004, it focuses on top Chinese entrepreneurs across a broad range of sectors including TMT, consumer products and services, education, health care, financial services, and CleanTech. China Renaissance employs more than 60 professionals in two offices in Beijing and Shanghai. It offers financial advising services in private placement and mergers and acquisitions to an extensive network of Chinese entrepreneurs. In the past five years, it successfully closed over $1.5 billion worth of transactions. Last year’s intern was assigned to the Education Sector. The intern conducted industry research and produced pitches for busistories of the business, worked on a case study on management and financial models. Mandarin is recommended for this placement, but is not required.
Live, Learn, and Intern in China (LLIC)
The University of Hong Kong’s Learn, Live, and Intern in China (LLIC) program consists of a two-week seminar at HKU followed by a seven-week internship placement. The seminar component, which includes lecture, course work, and field trips, is offered by HKU’s Faculty of Social Science and is part of the Asia as a Global Future Summer Institute. For the internship component, participants work in either Hong Kong or Shanghai at selected companies, ranging from small to medium enterprises, including a range of industries from finance and non-profit to media and commercial enterprises. The internships vary from year to year and may change based on circumstances. Examples of companies and organizations that have participated in the past include AML Group., ZTE, HKU Shanghai Architecture Study Centre, MRT, Kerry EAS Logistics, Keating Asia, Lenovo, PopCap Games Shanghai, and Toys"R"Us. Applicants are asked to indicate their industry preferences and city preferences on their application and can request to be considered for a particular company, but there are no guarantees. If you are applying for this placement, please submit the LLIC application to the IIP along with your IIP Placement Application materials. You do not need to write the IIP Personal Statement. Do not submit the LLIC application to LLIC.

JLM Pacific Epoch
JLM Pacific Epoch is an independent equity-research firm focused exclusively on China. The company was created to meet institutional investors' growing and unmet demand for accurate and insightful China business intelligence. The JLM Pacific Epoch team is comprised of China experts with backgrounds in finance, industry, journalism, and international relations. Its analysts are based in Beijing and Shanghai, with an extensive network of researchers throughout China. JLM Pacific Epoch provides global investors with big-picture insight as well as independent China data, primary research, and analysis. Interns will have the opportunity to work with JLM Pacific Epoch’s business professionals, researchers, and analysts on a variety of research and consulting projects. Specific work could include conducting research, project-based problem solving and analysis, and writing and editing reports. Positions are available in both Beijing and Shanghai. JLM Pacific Epoch seeks talented candidates who have a passion for China, demonstrate hard work and an eagerness to learn, and possess excellent writing, communication, and analytical skills. Candidates should be self-motivated and able to work in a team-based environment. All candidates will be expected to have completed China-related coursework and demonstrate a high level of fluency in both English and Mandarin. J.P. Morgan
J.P. Morgan is one of the leading integrated investment banking operations in China, operating through three representative offices and providing a complete range of capital raising, merger and acquisition, and strategic advisory services. Placements are in the company's Beijing office. Applicants must be bilingual and possess good communication and analytical skills. In a previous year, an intern conducted statistical analyses on client accounts and presented the findings to colleagues. The internships will be defined based on the qualifications of the candidates. Knowledge of Mandarin required.
Meiloo, Inc.
Meiloo is an e-commerce portal that helps people find lifestyle/elective health care services in China. Currently they offer dental, physicals, cosmetic treatments, and other elective health care services at 330 clinics in Beijing and Shanghai. Meiloo provides its customers with the information they need before choosing a health care provider, including reviews, pricing, and details on procedures. Meiloo was founded in 2007. They are venture-funded and have been featured in Forbes, CNN, China Business International, as well as in a number of domestic publications in China. The intern would assist in developing, launching, and marketing an English-language version of the website, aimed at expatriates living in China. Candidates with strong programming backgrounds would serve as integrated members of the IT team to improve the website. Candidates without a technical background would help the CEO develop new business initiatives to take advantage of China’s changing health care landscape. This role would involve a lot of writing, research and data analysis. Requirements: A good command of spoken and written Chinese and fluency in English. Experience with web programming, social media, and/or medicine is a plus.

Octagon is one of the world’s leading sports and entertainment marketing, representation, and event management firms. With 1,000+ employees in 45 offices worldwide, Octagon has helped more than 500 of the world's top companies and organizations and more than 800 athletes and personalities tap into their passions for sports and entertainment to drive impressive business results. Worldwide, Octagon manages more than 3,200 events. One internship is available, either in Marketing Solutions or Sponsorship Consulting, as follows:
- Marketing Solutions: Admin support; event coordination; clipping preparation and search; telephone follow up and liaison with vendors, related authorities, and some clients depending on the requirement of each event; ad-hoc assistance as needed by the Events team.
- Sponsorship Consulting: Research; information and data collection and basic analysis; translation; ad-hoc assistance as needed by the Events team.
Applicants must be bilingual and possess good communication, research and analytical skills. Sports and marketing knowledge is an asset.
INDIA
Ashoka India
Ashoka is dedicated to sourcing and supporting the world's leading social entrepreneurs--men and women with system-changing solutions for the world’s most urgent social problems. Their network, which began growing 28 years ago in India, now spans over 70 countries and more than 2000 social entrepreneurs. Interns will help Ashoka India to achieve greater sustainability by 1) contributing to developing its pitch to showcase Ashoka and its community of social entrepreneurs to potential partners, donors, and investors in India; 2) co-creating language and materials to support new and ongoing relationships with partners, donors, and investors; 3) assisting in the management of discrete projects run by partners; 4) conducting activities with collaboration and support from Ashoka staff. The exact deliverables and terms of the internship will be determined at the outset of the internship and revisited during the intern's time on-site. Past examples include developing an investor prospectus for potential social venture fund partners; working with Ashoka’s Global Engagement Team and relevant Fellow organizations; leading efforts to fulfill engagement and reporting responsibilities to donor/investor partners alongside Ashoka’s Global Engagement Team; and managing discrete engagements with Ashoka’s business partners, which include the Corporate Executive Board, Google Inc., and McKinsey & Company. Ashoka does not require a specific concentration. A strong, persuasive writing sample will elevate the most competitive candidates.
Byrraju Foundation
The Byrraju Foundation, located in Andhra Pradesh, India, seeks to build progressive self-reliant rural communities, with a holistic approach, by providing over 40 diverse services in the areas of health care, environment, sanitation, primary education, adult literacy, skills development, etc. The Foundation currently works in 199 villages in six districts of Andhra Pradesh--East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur, Ranga Reddy, and Visakhapatnam--positively transforming the lives of over a million people. The intern will have the opportunity to conduct research at village health centers on a wide array of topics, including primary health care, diabetes, hypertension, epilepsy, disability, school health, maternal-child health, nutrition, HIV, tele-medicine, etc. The projects will be created in partnership with Byrraju staff. Research conducted may include analysis and recommendations based on Byrraju’s own regularly collected metrics, and it may extend into areas of policy research including studies on the public health system and governmental schemes applicable to Indian rural villages based on Byrraju-supported villages and villagers' experiences; the efficacy, relevance, and efficiency of such governmental schemes; recommendations for government health service improvements; and reengineering portions of health care delivery systems. This internship is ideal for students specializing in/with strong interests in management, public health, anthropology, statistics, development studies, psychology, and economics. Computer skills and statistical analysis knowledge/experience are required, and background knowledge in research methodology would be an asset. This internship is offered in partnership with the Program in Global Health and Health Policy and can be used for completion of the GHP Summer Research Requirement (please check the appropriate box on your application).
Infosys Technologies Ltd.
Infosys Technologies Ltd. designs and delivers technology-enabled business solutions and provides a complete range of services by leveraging domain and business expertise and strategic alliances with leading technology providers. Infosys' offerings span business and technology consulting, application services, systems integration, product engineering, custom software development, maintenance, re-engineering, independent testing and validation services, IT infrastructure services and business process outsourcing. In summer 2010, placements will be offered in the finance/marketing area and in engineering. Students selected for the finance/marketing placement will contribute to projects in areas such as cultural studies, leadership studies, marketing strategies, gender and diversity, organizational behavior, market research, corporate branding, public relations, corporate communication, market and industry analysis, and financial modeling. International Water Management Institute (IWMI)
IWMI is a non-profit organization with a staff of 350 and offices in more than 10 countries across Asia and Africa. In summer 2010, placements will be offered in India, Uzbekistan, Laos, and Ghana. IWMI targets water and land management challenges faced by poor communities in the developing world/developing countries and through this contributes towards the achievement of the UN Millennium Development Goals of reducing poverty and hunger and maintaining a sustainable environment. Research is IWMI's core activity. Interns will participate in a project focused on evaluating the effectiveness of how the scientific information IWMI generates is packaged, distributed, and promoted. Each intern will conduct research in the country where he/she is placed. As part of a team, the intern will contribute towards defining the main products/activities and the target audiences and aims of those products/activities; setting up the methodology, including face-to-face interviews, for assessing these products/activities; taking leadership in undertaking analysis (travel within the country may be required) and analyzing results; participating in a workshop in India (for interns in Ethiopia, a travel stipend will be provided) to present results of findings as part of the team making recommendations for future marketing and communications efforts. The intern must be able to work well with people of different cultures, possess some evaluation experience (conducting surveys, facilitating focus groups, interviewing, data analysis, making presentations, etc.), and be a clear, concise report writer.
Udayan Care
Udayan Care is a New Delhi-based voluntary organization committed to sustainable social development through working with disadvantaged children and women. Founded in 1994, Udayan Care strives to "regenerate the rhythm of life of the disadvantaged." Udayan Care currently runs seven L.I.F.E (Living in Family Environment) homes for orphaned, abused, and abandoned children promoting family bonding, physical and mental health, education and social integration. Applicants should have a background in the fields of social studies, management studies, organizational studies, and/or IT. Applicants should also be self-motivated and enthusiastic about making a difference in the lives of those less fortunate. Possible projects are varied and may also be tailored towards the intern's skills and interests. Projects may be field-oriented in the sense of working directly with the children and sharing day-to-day life with them. Any projects will be discussed and planned in detail with Udayan Care on acceptance of the intern. There is also the opportunity to be more management focused in many areas of office work. In addition to focusing on individual projects, the intern may be required to assist with the children's daily studies, homework, and English language development.
Unite for Sight
Unite for Sight implements vision screening and education programs in North America and in developing countries. Volunteers participate in pre-service training and orientation that ensures that that they are fully prepared to contribute to the success of Unite for Sight programs. The programs are locally led and managed by partner eye clinics that provide year-round high quality eye care and continuity of care for all patients. Unite for Sight volunteers work with local ophthalmic nurses, optometrists, and ophthalmologists to support and assist clinics in outreach programs that reduce barriers to health care, including financial, transportation, and education barriers. This is a great opportunity to be immersed in an international health and development program while providing eye care to patients living in extreme poverty. Internship responsibilities may include working in rural villages to assist the eye clinic doctors in all aspects of the eye care program, including taking patient history, testing visual acuity, assisting the doctors with the coordination of patient surgeries. Interns also may have an opportunity to pursue independent research projects under the guidance of ophthalmologists at the eye clinic.

JAPAN
DeNA
DeNA Co., Ltd. operates in three main areas: mobile portal, e-commerce, and internet advertising. DeNA manages Japan’s top mobile portal site “Mobage-Town” (mbga.jp), which provides users with access to games, social media, and community networking tools. In the e-commerce area, DeNA manages shopping mall and auctioning sites such as “Bidders” (bidders.co.jp) and “Mobaoku” (mbok.jp). In the internet advertising area, DeNA has capitalized upon the monetizing capability of its services through "Pocket Affiliate" (smaf.jp), one of the top affiliate networks in Japan. In addition DeNA continues to invest heavily in the development of new business. Recently, global expansion, especially in the U.S. and China, has been a strong focal point. DeNA Co., Ltd. was founded in 1999 by a former partner of McKinsey & Co., Tomoko Namba. The company is based in Tokyo, Japan, and has more than 600 employees. Juniors interested in the global mobile industry, especially those pursuing concentrations/certificates in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Economics, Finance, and Mathematics, are encouraged to apply. Interns will be placed in Design and Development (open to both programmers and non programmers), Engineering (programming experience required), and Marketing and Strategy. Japanese language skills are required.
Johnson & Johnson KK Japan, Consumer Company
Based in Tokyo and established in 1978, Johnson & Johnson KK Japan is a subsidiary of the American manufacturer Johnson & Johnson. Intern responsibilities may include assisting one (or more) of J&J's brand marketing teams to learn about the actual business/marketing processes of a total manufacturer organization like J&, and how the marketing department functions in launching new products. During participation in a project to launch a new product, the intern will be expected to attend and contribute during focus groups, analyzing market/consumer/competitor data and participate in communication development, etc., that might take him/her out of the office (but not on business trips domestically or abroad). Japanese language skills are required.
LAOS

NEW ZEALAND
Safekids New Zealand
Located in Auckland, Safekids New Zealand is New Zealand's national child injury prevention service, a service of Starship Children’s Hospital, and a member of Safe Kids Worldwide. Its mission is to reduce the incidence and severity of unintentional injury to children aged 0-14 years in New Zealand. Safekids works to raise public awareness of child injury issues and advocates for the adoption of policies and strategies that will improve child safety. Safekids coordinates an annual national public awareness campaign. Prior to the launch, Safekids does a traveling roadshow of workshops around NZ to educate the child injury prevention workforce. The intern's primary responsibility will be to collate evaluations of these workshops, analyze the issues, and write a report to be submitted to funders. The intern will need to work closely with the Safekids Campaign National Coordinator, research the injury prevention themes, learn the content of the workshops, become familiar with the resources available for the Campaign, liaise with the coalitions, and discuss outcomes with the Safekids Team.
SINGAPORE
Association of Women for Action and Research
AWARE, or the Association of Women for Action and Research, is Singapore’s leading women’s rights advocacy group. Since its formation in 1985, it has carried out research into gender inequality and other issues relevant to women and advocated for changes in laws, policies, and mindsets that discriminate against women. AWARE also has a direct services arm and is building up its training services. AWARE welcome interns who have an interest in gender issues, sociology, and southeast Asia and can help in research and advocacy work and/or training programmes. Intern responsibilities will include primary and secondary research, report writing, program development. Specific projects may include research on the status of women and their views and gender workshops on women’s rights. Strong writing ability would be an advantage, as would Web/new media skills, as AWARE is making greater use of new media to reach out to people and get its message across. The language of this internship is English.
SOUTH KOREA
Citizens’ Alliance for North Korean Human Rights (NKHR)
Citizens’ Alliance for North Korean Human Rights was established in 1996 and is a non-profit, non-partisan NGO, based in Seoul, South Korea, devoted to raising awareness on human rights violations in North Korea both domestically and abroad through publications, conferences, and campaigns. It also protects the lives and human rights of North Korean refugees in third countries and assists North Korean children and youth through various resettlement programs in South Korea. Interns applying for an internship with the NKHR may choose from a variety of activities:
- For the International Cooperation, Campaign and Research Teams: Interns will be responsible for researching assigned human rights/refugee topics, drafting briefing reports, proofreading for publications, assisting in preparations for annual International Conference on North Korean Human Rights and Refugees, preparing and participating in urgent campaigns, researching and preparing weekly e-mail newsletter.
- For the Domestic Education Team: Students who complete NKHR’s volunteer training program, held annually in the beginning of July, may teach English/art/sports to North Korean children and teenagers during Summer Camp and will participate in various cultural and sports activities with North Korean college students.
A working knowledge of Korean is recommended.
TAIWAN
American Institute in Taiwan/ Agricultural Trade Office
The American Institute in Taiwan’s Agricultural Trade Office (ATO), located in Taipei, is part of USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS), which has 90 overseas offices, located in or close to U.S. embassies or consulates. This placement has provided participants with an excellent opportunity to learn about issues, programs, and activities related to international agricultural trade. It also gives students a broader view of U.S. interests through FAS interaction with other U.S. Foreign Service agencies such as the State Department and Department of Commerce. The ATO organizes an American Pavilion at the Taipei International Food Show in June each year. This is one of their most important activities and includes participation by at least 20-25 American food/beverage companies/associations. The intern will help ATO staff prepare for the American Pavilion, which often includes a commercial demonstration kitchen, trade briefings, a trade reception for 250+ key contacts, and video/podcast interviews. After the show, the intern will help in drafting an evaluation report, following up with importers, and producing videos summarizing the show and U.S. exhibitors' participation in the show. In addition to these market promotion responsibilities, the intern will work with the Agricultural Affairs Section Chief on certain trade policy issues that require strong analytical and report writing skills. This placement will provide a great opportunity to work inside a U.S. mission overseas, assist U.S. exporters, help local importers promote their products, and address market access issues. Some level of Mandarin would be an asset but is not required.
THAILAND
Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC)
The IOC, established in 1960 by a UNESCO resolution, develops, promotes, and facilitates international oceanographic research programs and provides international leadership in the development of educational and training programs and technical assistance essential for marine research. Headquartered in Paris, IOC has established its regional offices in Asia-Pacific and Caribbean regions. Apart from assisting the IOC Headquarters in the implementation of its global programs in the region, the regional offices are devoted to the promotion, coordination, and development of regionally rooted activities on marine scientific research, observations, and capacity building. Internship placements are currently in Thailand and in Paris. This internship is made possible thanks to a grant from the Princeton Environmental Institute.
