IIP Placements in the Dominican Republic

Location: Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic
The Solidarity Center is a non-profit organization that assists workers around the world in their efforts to build democratic and independent trade unions. Its members work with unions and community groups worldwide to achieve equitable, sustainable, democratic development and to help men and women everywhere stand up for their rights and improve their living and working standards. A unique internship program is offered to motivated Princeton sophomores and juniors interested in international social, labor, and human rights issues. Students with an academic interest in political science, international relations, labor relations, social and economic justice, and non-profit interest or experience are encouraged to apply. Responsibilities may include assisting with anti-trafficking, migrant rights, domestic worker, and/or other organizing campaign programs; providing technical assistance to local unions in developing communication tools such as Web pages, newsletters, basic computer and corporate research, etc.; assisting in writing and editing reports and assisting in research in drafting proposals to donor organizations; researching and writing stories for the Solidarity Center website; attending and/or assisting with meetings, workshops, and seminars on relevant topics; prepare briefing materials on relevant topics; assisting in organizing and recruitment work with partner organizations; working with the legal team to develop assistance and judicial development proposals for public policies and legislative change. At the end of the IIP internship, IIP interns will prepare a report and presentation on a proposed action plan for a specific program or activity for follow-up by the Solidarity Center and/or its partners. These placements require good research and writing skills as well as advanced Spanish skills. Two placements have been created for International Internship Program (IIP) interns.
