IIP Placements in Honduras
NOTE: All placements in Honduras are tentative as there is a State Department Travel Warning issued for Honduras. Interns will not be placed in a country that carries a State Department Travel Warning.
Organization for Youth Empowerment (OYE)
Location: El Progreso and Yoro, Honduras
OYE is a community based, youth-led organization that develops the leadership and capacity of at-risk Honduran youth. OYE’s integrated development approach combines formal education, youth capacity building, and community engagement to inspire and equip young people with the awareness and skills they need to take control of their lives. OYE’s model of sustainable, long term development focuses its efforts on the empowerment of socially conscious youth who will emerge as leaders and agents of positive change in the Honduran community. OYE seeks IIP interns of all backgrounds and interests, including journalism, mathematics, business/marketing, non-profit scaling, visual arts, creative writing, photography, radio, theater, sports, education, sociology, psychology, activism, health. Previous IIP interns have participated in social investigations that serve as a baseline for the planning of OYE’s development and capacity building programs. They also executed a study on youth violence and the role of NGOs, Businesses, and Government institutions and a second study investigating the use of Radio and Magazines as social media tools. In addition to conducting primary source research these IIP interns took on individual projects as well. One worked closely on OYE social media presence writing blogs and managing twitter, while the other shared her experiences as a writer/journalist mentoring OYE’s magazine program. Three placements have been created for International Internship Program (IIP) interns.
