Kantaya
Location: Lima, Peru
About: Emzingo's Global Impact Fellowship is a leadership and social impact program where students consult for nonprofits and social enterprises while undergoing an intensive leadership and personal development curriculum. Global Impact fellows in Peru will be placed into teams of 3 or 4 students to assist nonprofits and social impact startups solve a key strategic challenge, implement new programs, or conduct research. Emzingo will assist fellows to design and oversee the development of their projects, and each team will also be paired to a project mentor with significant relevant knowledge in the field. Projects touch a wide range of topics from health to education to economic empowerment.
IIP interns will act as consultant on behalf of Emzingo and will have the opportunity to be paired with Kantaya, a non-profit organization that transform lives through quality education, fostering creativity and values in vulnerable children.
Intern Responsibilities (sample project from last year): Kantaya is working on two initiatives to help the organization become self-sustainable. They need help with either one to better understand the market, the competitors, the challenges and opportunities that each initiative represents. The interns will be tasked with one of the two initiatives: 1) Komparte K, a social company that sells products (notebook, binders etc…) to support Kantaya’s children and connect them to a social community. They want to improve their operations and strategy and plan to do a small scale launch in the next months; 2) Reto Kantaya, a program to sell to private schools that empowers their students to encourage them to believe in themselves and to help develop empathy in the future leaders of Peru, the plan has four steps: experience, reflection, empowerment and sharing with Kantaya’s beneficiaries (http://www.kantayaperu.com/).
Qualifications: Interning at this company is a good opportunity for students who are interested in gaining experience in business development, social impact and education. The organization seeks a highly-organized student with critical thinking, active listening skills, operation analysis, strong strategic thinking. No specific academic background is required, but programming skills will be an asset. The student must be comfortable in a culturally diverse setting and want to make a difference. Lumni
Location: Lima, Peru
About: Lumni finances students through Income Share Agreements (ISAs) so they can finish their studies. Students agree to pay the financing after graduating by paying a fixed amount of their salary for a set period of time.
Intern Responsibilities: The interns will help the organization develop a marketing strategy to increase Lumni work visibility. The interns will also work on planning and obtaining new sources of financing, which in turn will help create more job opportunities for its beneficiaries at a national and international level.
Qualifications: Interning at Lumni is a good opportunity for students who are interested in gaining experience in business development, social impact and education. The organization seeks a highly-organized student with critical thinking, active listening skills, empathy, creative and strategic thinking. No specific academic background is required, but a background in business and marketing will be considered an asset. The student must be conscious that his work will help to better the educational situation in a country that has very poor levels and a very low percentage of graduate professionals.
Please note that this internship is offered in collaboration with Emzingo Global Impact Fellowship Program. In addition to their internship, students undergo a mandatory intensive leadership and personal development curriculum. They will attend workshops, visits to different start-ups, and a variety of activities that are a mandatory part of the fellowship curriculum. Emzingo will assist the fellows/interns to design and oversee the development of their projects, and each team will also be paired to a project mentor with significant relevant knowledge in the field. Projects touch a wide range of topics from health to education to economic empowerment and are related to the internships.
Recidar
Location: Lima Peru
About: Peru is increasingly affected by two major problems. In Peru, about 11 million low-income people are forced to buy products for their homes in the "cachinas", black markets, which sell stolen and contraband items. On the other hand, about 200 tons of used items are discarded each year, which creates an environmental problem for our society. At Recidar, we build a bridge between both problems to generate a sustainable and prosperous solution for low-income Peruvian families.
Intern Responsibilities: Recidar is working on several challenges in parallel to help the organization become self-sustainable. The interns will play an important role in addressing those challenges and creating solutions to solve them. The interns will help the organization optimize its logistics operations, use of time and growth hacking techniques for their marketing strategies to increase its sustainability.
Qualifications: Interning at Recidar is a good opportunity for students who are interested in gaining experience in business development, social impact, and responsible consumption. The organization seeks a highly-organized student with critical thinking, active listening skills, empathy, creative and strategic thinking. No specific academic background is required, but a background in business and marketing will be considered an asset. They must feel comfortable visiting very poor communities and market places.
